I began working with the grid to play with the tension between control and spontaneity. The Department of Transportation’s fight against grid lock is a fight against paralyzing disorder, but my fight was against paralyzing order. The work used the grid in many ways: as a container, a method of connection, a background, a way of attaching and detaching.
