The request for proposals for this project asked “What would you do with 5000 tulips?” The site was in a space enclosed by a low fence, so people could not walk among the tulips. I therefore built raised beds to make the flowers more visible. The work was a reflection of the architecture of Brooklyn’s Borough Hall, the nearest building, with the wedge shapes imitating the shape of the steps, the tulips planted in colored rows to mimic the steps, and the six trees copying the six columns of the building.
